Foundation
The Foundation is real, or we shouldn’t exist.
We are building protocols meant to run AI organizations for the next fifty years. No single for-profit company can credibly steward that — so by Year 2, we hand governance to a neutral, multi-stakeholder Foundation. CNCF, Apache, Eclipse, and the Linux Foundation exist for the same structural reason.
The Engine stays MIT — forever
No relicensing, ever. If we ever attempted it, the last MIT version remains permanently usable. This is bylaw-locked once the Foundation takes ownership of the Engine codebase.
Protocols transfer by Year 2
MDL, AAS, ADID, ARP, and MDL-Mem move from Atrobox Inc. to the Atrobox Foundation — a Delaware nonprofit seeking 501(c)(3) status — by month 24 (no later than month 30 if filing complications push us).
A bright line between protocol and product
If it is a protocol, it lives in the Foundation. If it is a product — the hosted Platform, the marketplace, vertical apps — it stays with Atrobox Inc. This line is intentional and immovable.
Specs are open, twice over
Protocol schemas are MIT-licensed; the prose describing them is CC-BY-4.0. Free to embed, free to quote with attribution.
